  • Highlights
      • Civil society organizations from across the globe demand that the Treaty establish direct obligations on companies and include the criminal liability of companies and individuals.
      • Human rights organizations highlight that Treaty must ensure effective protection in conflict-affected areas, including those under occupation  
      • Numerous stakeholders call for the inclusion of provisions on the protection of human rights defenders, including women human rights defenders, as key actors for corporate accountability.
      • The need to address gender-specific risks was highlighted on several occasions.
      • Stakeholders call for a clear definition of “victims” under the Treaty.

  • ECCJ - Day 5 of negotiations for a UN Binding Treaty on Business & Human Rights
  • Highlights
      • In the morning, the Optional Protocol was presented and the panel discussion focused on the voice of the victims
      • The afternoon session was about the adoption of the report
      • The Chair-Rapporteur issued recommendations, including:
        - inviting relevant stakeholders to submit comments and proposals on the draft of the legally binding instrument by the end of February 2019
        - present a revised draft of the legally binding instrument by the end of June 2019
        - informal consultations with relevant stakeholders will be held before the fifth session of the Intergovt. Working Group
