Companies have paid increasing attention to human rights issues in business following the 2011 adoption of the UN Guiding Principles (UNGPs). This platform seeks to promote transparency and engagement on company policy and action on business and human rights, including implementation of the UNGPs. It aims to highlight positive company action, identify areas for improvement and empower advocates and civil society to press companies on responsible conduct. We invited 180 companies to provide information about their policies and practices on human rights; responses and non-responses can be viewed and compared using the platform.

How to use the platform
Companies, investors, civil society, governments & others can use the platform to:
- View a single company response: select from "companies" box to the left
- Compare two or more company responses; use "compare company responses" box on platform homepage
- Search company responses by keywords, sector, issues, actions & country of headquarters (view results as a list or as a comparison table): use "Search" box on homepage
- Check news and civil society reports about each company: provided with each company profile

Note on the UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework (UNGPRF)
On 24 February 2015, Shift & Mazars launched the UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework, following 18 months of research and consultation. The framework is the first "comprehensive guidance for companies to report on human rights issues in line with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs)".
While the purpose of this platform and the UNGPRF are different, we consulted closely with Shift in developing the survey questions for the platform. Several companies refer to their involvement in UNGPRF within their answers to the survey: any company that reports in accordance with UNGPRF will be setting a high standard for corporate human rights reporting.
Note on Corporate Human Rights Benchmark (CHRB)
This platform is an initiative of the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre. The Resource Centre is a member of the Steering Group for the Corporate Human Rights Benchmark (CHRB). The process and results from the Company Action Platform will be taken into account in the development of the methodology for the CHRB, which is underway. The CHRB Steering Group is: Aviva Investors; Business & Human Rights Resource Centre; Calvert Investments; EIRIS; The Institute for Human Rights and Business; and VBDO.
